Gov. David Ige this afternoon announced a $100 million rent relief and housing assistance program designed to help those who are at risk of eviction due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We want to keep people in their homes because we don’t need additional people who are homeless during this very, very difficult time,” Ige said in a media briefing at the Hawaii State Capitol.

The program, to be funded by federal CARES Act COVID-19 relief funds, will provide renters with monthly rent, as well as financial counseling, and will be administered by Catholic Charities Hawaii and Aloha United Way.
