Aloha United Way is actively working to protect the health, safety, and well-being of our community as Hawaii confronts COVID-19. Along with the severe public health crisis, our community is facing an extreme economic crisis that has no clear end in sight. The most vulnerable members of our community, many of whom already face health and economic challenges, will be disproportionately affected by the global pandemic.

As a vital part of Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) emergency response plan, Aloha United Way 211 is the primary community call center for info on COVID-19. We experienced an immediate surge in demand for services and support, along with a record number of calls to our 211 helpline requesting referrals to rent and utility assistance, housing, food, healthcare, and other basic human needs.  We expect the need to continue to soar.

Aloha United Way’s Hawaii COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund was activated to swiftly raise and deploy flexible resources to local nonprofit agencies supporting those affected by the coronavirus outbreak. Through trusted partnerships, the Fund is providing support for local nonprofit organizations to address:

• Food insecurity
• Housing and shelter needs
• Rent/utility access
• Disaster/crisis response
• Medical needs
• Childcare and eldercare
