Aloha United Way kicks off "Join the Movement" campaign: news feature on KITV

Aug. 26, 2016

More than 400 people spent Friday morning waving signs outside Tamarind Park to help Aloha United Way kick of its annual campaign.

The theme of this year's campaign is "Join the Movement," which focuses on getting young professionals involved in giving back to the community.

"As young people start to join the workforce, we really want to make sure that they're part of the community and part of giving back to the community, whether that's donations through their time or money," said Jordan Ford, a campaign committee representative for Aloha United Way. "Whatever is easiest and best for them. We really want to encourage that involvement in the community."

Aloha United Way hopes to raise more than $9 million, money that will be divided between local non-profits and community initiatives.

"Last year we invested $11.2 million back into the community," said Cindy So all of this funding supports programs year-round in the areas of primarily education, poverty-prevention and safety-net. So we're really excited, we had a really great turnout today."

The campaign runs through Oct. 9. To Join the Movement, you can visit www.auw.org.
