We love hearing success stories from our partner nonprofit agencies. Here’s how Barnes & Noble customers and Aloha United Way made a positive impact on Hawaii Literacy.

Every year AUW partners with Barnes & Noble for a Holiday Book Drive where Barnes and Noble customers purchase books and the books will go to support the many nonprofit organizations working towards enhancing literacy in our community through Aloha United Way. Over 1300 books were donated to Hawaii Literacy from the Holiday Book Drive. The books helped low-income youth ages 3 to 12 at 14 sites, primarily in public housing and homeless shelters. These donations supported eight summer reading programs, six book giveaways to families in public housing, and provided incentive prizes for monthly reading and homework completion that have rewarded nearly 400 youth for improving school achievement.

It’s such a good feeling when you can empower and help someone succeed.
