Emergency Food & Shelter Program

In addition to the direct funding to Emergency and Crisis Services, Aloha United Way also adminsters the distribution of Federal funding through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP)

EFSP funding is provided annually by allocation from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is distributed to counties throughout the country based on unemployment rates.  Aloha United Way administers the Hawai'i statewide and Honolulu County funding through a volunteer board using a competitive application process.

In 2010, a total of $261,379 of EFSP funding for Oahu will go to three purposes through the agencies listed:

Rent & Mortgage Assistance: $140,024

(Catholic Charities, Gregory House, PACT, Salvation Army and Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Clinic)

Emergency Food: $80,014

(Hawai'i Foodbank)

Mass Shelters: $41,341

(Child and Family Services, Family Promise Hawai'i, Institute for Human Services (IHS), Mental Health Kokua and PACT)
