Aloha United Way will continue to advocate for increases to the funding of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) which provides a significant portion of the money available to the community for emergency food, emergency rent/mortgage and emergency utility payment assistance.

Result

In 2009, total funding to Emergency Food and Shelter increased by 24% from $153 million nationally to $200 million. An additional $100 million was provided to EFSP through the America's Recovery and Reinvestment Act. 

Total EFSP allocation to Hawai'i for 2009 was $690,000. $415,000 of it was allocated to Oahu.
