Charitable Gift Annuities
Under the terms of a gift annuity contract, a donor contributes cash or appreciated securities and in return, receives fixed annuity payments for life. Such annuities are also frequently designed for couples with payments to continue as long as either one survives. In times of lower interest rates, gift annuity payments can be a way to generate more useable income than you now receive from your investments. Gift annuities also provide tax benefits.
With an Aloha United Way Charitable Gift Annunity, you can:
-
Provide a meaningful gift that will benefit your community for generations
-
Increase the cash flow of the annuitants with annuity payments that are partially tax free
-
Receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction
The Aloha United Way Charitable Gift Annuity is a simple contract between you and Aloha United Way. In exchange for your irrevocable gift of cash, securities or other assets, AUW agrees to pay one or two annuitants you name a fixed sum each year for life. In the year the gift is made, you will receive an income tax deduction for part of your gift as provided by law. After the death of the annuitants, the remaining assets will become a part of the AUW Endowment and be used to strengthen the safety net health and human service programs that improve the quality of life for many in our community.
The minimum amount needed for your first AUW charitable gift annuity is $10,000. Thereafter, additional annuities may be issued for $5,000 or more. Annuities can be immediate or deferred. Deferred annuities offer higher rates depending upon the length of the deferral period. They may be used in retirement planning. Donors contemplating a large gift annuity for persons, other than themselves and their spouse, may have other tax considerations.
The older your designated annuitants are at the time of the gift, the greater the fixed income AUW can agree to pay. In most cases, part of each payment is tax-free, increasing each payment’s after-tax value. Payments can be made annually, semi-annually or quarterly.

With your gift, you also become a member of the AUW Endowment Society. This society recognizes donors who contributed to the increased health and well being of their community.
